More Roo skills are coming

Today Roo is mostly about points, rewards, coworking, and requests. More MLAI helper skills are on the way.

Roo handles the admin

Roo helps members and the MLAI Team manage approvals, requests, and reward flows behind the scenes.

What are Roo Points?

Roo Points are MLAI's internal thank-you system for meaningful contributions. They are designed to recognise useful work and turn it into community perks.

Important limits

Not money
Not tradable
No cash value
Non-transferable

About 1 Roo Point = 10 minutes of meaningful contribution

The AUD comparison is only a behind-the-scenes planning guide for MLAI. It is not a public exchange rate and should not be treated like one.

Spendable balance

What you can use right now on coworking, event tickets, office hours, merch, and other Roo-managed perks.

Lifetime points

Your long-term contribution history. This running record helps MLAI see who has been consistently helpful, reliable, and ready for more responsibility over time.

How Roo Points help you progress

Earned Roo Points, especially your lifetime points history, help MLAI see trust, consistency, and contribution over time. That can support opportunities to take on more responsibility, host your own events, step into MLAI Team roles, and be considered for paid work when relevant roles exist.

Roo Points support these decisions, but they do not automatically guarantee a role, event ownership, or paid work.

How it works

Help out. Get recognised. Spend your points. The loop should feel simple from day one.

01

Help out

Post an intro, support founders, share an update, or volunteer for a task that helps the community move.

02

Get recognised

Some actions may be auto-recognised. For organised volunteering, tag @Roo and an MLAI Team member and ask for X points for doing Y.

03

Spend your points

Use Roo in Slack to book coworking, redeem rewards, or request community perks when you are ready.

Get your first Roo Points fast

The fastest onboarding path is small, useful, visible contribution. Roo Points are supposed to reward momentum, not busywork.

Introduce yourself in #_start-here

+2

Share who you are, what you are building or learning, and how you would like to get involved.

Support founders in #link-love

+1

Like, comment, repost, or otherwise amplify meaningfully, then confirm in-thread so the help is visible.

Share your monthly startup update

+10

One meaningful update per month keeps the community loop active and helps people see where they can help.

Volunteer at an event or on a task

Varies

Points vary by task, time, and responsibility. Organised work is the main path to earning bigger amounts.

First reward shortcut

A quick example: your intro in #_start-here gets you +2. A few meaningful founder boosts in #link-love can push you to your first reward tier fast.

Volunteer work is the main way to earn

Small actions help people get started. Organised volunteer work is where Roo Points become a serious community recognition system.

Typical volunteer work

Event setup and pack-down
Registration and front desk support
Helping run workshops
Giving talks
Writing docs, tutorials, grants, or research deliverables

How approval works

  1. 1

A lead or MLAI Team member posts or assigns the task.

  2. 2

    You do the work.

  3. 3

You tag @Roo and the relevant MLAI Team member.

  4. 4

You ask for X points for Y.

  5. 5

    They approve it.

  6. 6

    Roo logs the award.

Include a short summary or link when relevant. The goal is to keep approvals clear without turning the process into paperwork.

Plain-language example

"@Roo can I buy a sticker with my points?"

Fairness, limits, and pilot notes

This should feel welcoming, not legalistic. The point is to make the system understandable and fair while MLAI learns.

Pilot rules

  • This is a pilot, so values and rules may be adjusted as MLAI learns.
  • Some actions may be auto-recognised, while organised work is approved by the MLAI Team.
  • All changes are logged so the system stays accountable.
  • Clear gaming, spam, or low-effort abuse can be denied or reversed.

More Roo skills are coming

Today the main Roo story is points, rewards, coworking, and requests. Roo is expanding to help with more practical MLAI workflows over time, but this page keeps the focus on what members can use right now.
