Sydney AI and Tech Meetups: A Dated Community Directory
Choose the participation, then check the booking
Eight organiser groups rechecked on 29 October 2026; individual event records retain their own source dates. Dates, cost and format belong to specific events, not every session a group runs.
Sydney or online
Keep your chosen format when you continue to the MLAI calendar.
Current and historical stay separate
Passed dates, overdue reviews and uncertain closing times cannot earn a current shortlist place.
Check the remaining unknowns
An RSVP link, a free listing or a future date is not confirmed admission.

Start with what you want to learn or do, then check the actual event—not the size of the group. A research seminar, JavaScript talk, business panel and hands-on hackathon offer different kinds of participation. This guide is for AI- and startup-curious people choosing a Sydney or online session, not an assumption that every reader wants a job, contractor work or an AI system built.
We rechecked the eight public organiser pages on . New event observations and the older September records have separate dates below. This is a selected directory, not a complete list or an independent event-quality ranking. MLAI publishes this guide and is explicitly named as a co-host of the Web Directions hackathon below. We did not register, purchase tickets, attend these events or test their streams. The header image is illustrative, not attendance evidence.
Make a Sydney or online shortlist
Choose the participation you want. Matches satisfy every selected filter and are ordered by listed start, not quality or popularity. Past, overdue and uncertain-closing listings stay in the source directory below, not the current shortlist.
These non-sensitive selections appear in the page URL and browser history. No RSVP is sent. The form works without JavaScript; with scripts enabled, date status also updates while this page stays open.
3 listed options match all filters. A match is not admission.

Latest organiser check: 29 October; refreshed event records are due for review 5 November 2026 at midnight Sydney time. Historical records retain their earlier check dates. Closing-time conflicts stop current-time matches at the earliest published finish. Date windows do not imply a session runs continuously.
Eight communities, with event-specific evidence
Use the group link to look for later dates. The records below preserve historical activity as well as future listings. We have not verified venue access adjustments, captioning or sensory conditions; ask the organiser where those affect participation. A venue address alone does not establish accessibility.

Two AI Week details need particular care. The programme hub says 4–11 December, while the conference site's navigation still says 6–13 December. We use the dedicated event dates—hackathon 4–5 and conference 7–8—not an inferred week-long booking. The hackathon page names Stone & Chalk while the hub still says venue TBA; confirm the exact address and timetable before travel.
In-person free participation in that hackathon does not make the conference's online pass free. Sydney AI Meetup's 30 October free research seminar is a separate online option; its earlier August listing remains historical. Different offers within one community remain separate.
Worked choice: a free Sydney build session
Fictional teaching example, using the 10 September source snapshot—not an attendee account. Alex is a Sydney-based developer seeking a free, hands-on team build. Alex can reserve Friday evening and Saturday in December, but needs to confirm accessible entry and whether equipment is supplied.
- Reader task: build with a team, not listen to a business panel or take a paid client assignment.
- Shortlist: the AI Engineer hackathon describes team building, a free RSVP and 4–5 December dates. The paid conference/streaming offer is a separate decision. GDG's September agenda is talks, not the requested hands-on session.
- Outstanding checks: confirm exact hours, address, access arrangements, equipment, team rules and whether a place is offered. A visible form does not answer these questions.
- Decision: shortlist pending those answers; do not book non-refundable travel or describe attendance as confirmed. Recheck the listing before submitting an RSVP and again before attending.
- Participation question: “What are the team and demo requirements, and what should I bring?” No customer, job or portfolio outcome is assumed.
Counterexample: a free online first step
A reader who needs free, online participation cannot use the hackathon's free label or the historical August Zoom seminar to satisfy that requirement. In the September snapshot, neither was a current free online offer. The 29 October refresh adds a free online research seminar, which still does not satisfy a hands-on build request. Match the goal as well as price and format. The MLAI calendar may have other relevant sessions; check the selected ticket format and terms.
Download the editable Sydney participation record (TXT). It includes the completed fictional choice above and a blank record. Open it in a text editor; it does not submit an RSVP, save your choices automatically or confirm a place.
My goal and prior experience: Sydney in person / online / either: Dates, total time and cost I can commit: Chosen specific event and organiser URL: Source checked at / recheck due: Actual format and price for my ticket: Unknowns: address, access, hours, equipment, admission: Question to ask the organiser: Decision: shortlist / ask / defer / not suitable: RSVP submitted? Admission actually confirmed? One question or contribution to bring: Follow-up only if mutually agreed:
A brief introduction and one specific question are optional preparation aids, not a formula for networking success. Follow the organiser's code of conduct, ask before pitching or recording, and exchange contact details only by mutual agreement. Do not treat attendees as a lead list.
Take your Sydney or online preference to MLAI events
Use your shortlist question to choose a suitable MLAI session. Your format preference carries into the calendar; a matching listing is not a reservation or a promise of a place.
Check MLAI options for my preferenceThe calendar retains your location/format preference and shows its full, unfiltered feed. Confirm the actual ticket format, location and admission on the organiser’s page. A Sydney preference must not silently become a Melbourne-only recommendation. For Melbourne-specific comparison, use the Melbourne event guide.
Method, changes and limitations
Selection: public organiser evidence connecting an AI, software, data or applied-AI community to Sydney or a specific online session. The directory retains some past activity for discovery; inclusion is not endorsement, a popularity ranking or evidence of a new booking.
Date handling: exact published ends expire at that instant. Where no end is given, a labelled final-day boundary only identifies when the listed date is certainly past. Multiple-day windows include breaks. Conflicting finish times stop current matches at the earliest stated end; later uncertainty remains visible. Unknown clocks or invalid records cannot certify a current option.
Maintenance: MLAI editorial owns the source records. This revision sets a seven-day review deadline because event details are volatile. It is not a claim that a future review has already happened.
- 29 October: rechecked all eight group pages; added the October research seminar, November business meetup and online technical workshop. Refreshed the December offer sources, retaining availability and schedule uncertainties.
- 10 September: refreshed all eight groups, separated the free hackathon from the paid conference, recorded admission requirements and exposed conflicting dates, venues and finish times.
- AI on Tap correction: the URL previously recorded against 6 August now redirects to a page displaying Episode 7 on 1 October. This records the observed change; it does not establish whether an event was rescheduled or the URL reused.
- Earlier snapshot: July dates and the targeted September AI Week correction are superseded by the dated source records here, not silently presented as current availability.
